 | [VO] The River Underground : The Man in the Iron Mask (4ème partie) |
Genevieve and Julien visit the Bibliothéque du Roi the next day. They unearth a series of letters written by Nicholas Poussin, the painter of The Shepherds of Arcadia, to Nicholas Fouquet, King Louis XIV’s superindendant of finances. The letters speak of a “great secret”, and Julien suspects Fouquet may have been the Man in the Iron Mask.
That night, on the Duke of Lorraine’s estate, Genevieve witnesses Lorraine’s daughter Isabelle mistreating a stablehand. The stablehand tells Genevieve she bears a striking resemblance to the duke’s dead wife.
Gen goes inside and discovers the duke conducting a macabre ceremony in a secret chamber in his chateau. Like the temple in the sewers, the chamber is an exact replica of Solomon’s Temple.
