Julien is set upon by representatives from the Guild of Physicians: he is in trouble for violating Guild “ethical standards”, but Genevieve shows up and uses her influence to protect him. She also uses her personal charm to ply Julien for information regarding his investigation.
Later, Julien visits his friend Rabbi Maiselles. Together they discover the name “BAPHOMET” found in the sewer temple might be a code for “SOPHIA”, the Greek work for “wisdom”. They fail to decrypt the scrolls Julien stole from the crypt beneath the church of the Magdalene.
That night Julien attempts to question Hugo deMedici about the temple connected to his office building, only to find the wealthy merchant prince has become another victim of the mysterious stolen scroll.
